Visiting Scholar Dr. Kati Clements from the University of Jyväskylä, Finland, Delivers Academic Lecture at IBS

To actively enhance international academic engagement among IBS faculty and students, stimulate academic enthusiasm, broaden students' academic horizons, and foster international exchange and cooperation, the International Business School invited Dr. Kati Clements, a researcher from the Faculty of Information Technology at the University of Jyväskylä, Finland, to deliver an academic lecture titled "AI in Education & Research" on the morning of June 27 at Wenlan Building.

Dr. Kati Clements' primary research areas include artificial intelligence in education, e-commerce, open educational resources and databases, learning analytics, and digital services in retail. Her work focuses on various European and global projects in the fields of smart technology, e-commerce, and open education. Her lecture covered three main aspects: the fundamentals of AI, its applications in educational technology, and its use in research.

Firstly, Dr. Clements discussed the current applications of AI in daily life, using examples such as machines replacing human labor and autonomous vehicles. She emphasized that while there are seven stages of AI technology implementation, most current applications have only reached the third stage. Next, she introduced the application of AI in educational technology, suggesting that AI can be used to transform external learning environments and enhance students' online task-based learning through networks and technology. She then presented research on the application of AI in primary education in rural areas, finding that AI technology can transform individual self-learning environments, help strengthen learning initiative, and optimize school management methods. Finally, Dr. Clements introduced international exchange and cooperation projects between China and Finland, providing valuable guidance for faculty and students seeking international collaboration opportunities.

The faculty members, doctoral students, and master's students who participated in this academic salon found the lecture highly beneficial, gaining not only a deeper understanding of AI technology but also increased enthusiasm for scientific research and international engagement. Moving forward, the college will continue to invite senior overseas scholars to deliver academic lectures, striving to create favorable conditions for research and international exchange among its faculty and students.
